Watercolor studies

On winter break I also came across a display of plastic horse figurines. I pulled out my trusty watercolor travel kit and painted a quick sketch. It took me back to my childhood when my friend Beth showed me her collection of horses and Barbie dolls. They were so cool!

the more light there will be

My last post while I take a time to relax, renew and refuel. I'll be offline for awhile so here are a few images from my 2020.

I began 2020 sending out favorite poems via snail mail while healing from surgery--- to bring some kind thoughts and good cheer.

I end this holiday week with this poem I discovered last night. 2020 was challenging for all but I've heard from so many of you about the bright bits of encouragement you found along the way. Thank you for all the kindness you have shown me as we gathered here via my website.

Peace to you all during this holiday season and may we all have a happier New Year.

"The Laughing Heart"

your life is your life

don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.

be on the watch.

there are ways out.

there is light somewhere.

it may not be much light but

it beats the darkness.

be on the watch.

the gods will offer you chances.

know them.

take them.

you can’t beat death but

you can beat death in life, sometimes.

and the more often you learn to do it,

the more light there will be.

your life is your life.

know it while you have it.

you are marvelous

the gods wait to delight

in you.

Buddy

Meet Buddy. One of six sweet creatures I painted last week. He's the fur baby of my SIL, Ginny. He holds a myriad of colors and eyes full of love.

Textures

Various textures from paintings I worked on this week. They remind me of driving through Iowa mid winter when our eyes catch bright bits of color amidst the sleeping landscape.
